Monkey World
On Lara's last day here we went to Monkey World. Monkey World is like a big Zoo but with only monkeys. It was fun to see all the different types of apes but the longer I was there the more depressed I got. This is an ape rescue centre and I really wasn't prepared for all the horrible life histories that all these animals went through before getting rescued.
This is from the Monkey World website
"In the case of Spanish beach chimps, they are dressed up in human clothes and worked in tourist resorts, often for 16 hours per day as a photographer’s prop. When the chimpanzees reach 4 or 5 years of age they become uncontrollable and are usually killed in order to be replaced with a new baby chimp. Some photographers will try and control their chimps by beating them and pulling their teeth out and/or putting them on drugs. Monkey World, in co-operation with Spanish authorities, confiscates all known beach chimpanzees. New arrivals are given a full medical check and such examinations often reveal serious injuries such as machete wounds and broken bones. Many of the chimps come to us addicted to drugs. Recovery and rehabilitation is a lengthy process with many of the animals suffering from malnutrition and anaemia."
Raven keeps asking to go back to Monkey world but I think this is the reason why. This is only about half of the kids play area. It was crazy huge. I can't wait to take her back but I think it would be more fun for her if she was a bit older.
Monkey world even has a
TV program that is on Animal Planet UK called Monkey Life
MONKEY LIFE
"Set in Monkey World - Ape Rescue Centre in Dorset, UK, the series follows the nail-biting rescue and rehabilitation stories of some of the most abused and neglected monkeys in the world, and the unwivering hard wok of Dr. Alison Cronin, MBE, Jeremy Keeling and their team, in their ongoing mission to stop the illegal smuggling of primates from the wild. Refugees and chimps that were found abused in laboratories, circus tents or as photographers props are rehabilitated here and given the chance to spend the rest of their days being cared for in a natural environment.
Filmed over the course of a year, this heart-warming series follows the day-to-day dramas and personalities of these, our closest relatives. From power struggles and dramas, to friendship bonds and new additions to the group, Monkey Life follows some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet, and the team who are devoted to working with them."
And this is what else has made me cry lately. Raven was begging for a haircut. As I was cutting it with tears in my eyes Raven would say to me "Its okay mommy its only hair, it will grow back". She wanted it even shorter but I just couldn't.

She loves it!

That's so sad! It's really just so awful how terrible humans can be. And I know what you mean about the haircut. I just about cried the first time we cut Paxton's.
Oh that is sad about the chimps, but at least some of them are being rehablitated. Too bad Rapunzel made you cut her hair, it looked so healthy too!
That play area looks amazing Charlotte. I think I would have liked Monkey World, I studied tons of monkeys in my classes at the U of L. I wish Ellie would let me cut her hair. That's cute that Raven was reassuring you. She is such a cutie.
Monkeys- not my thing. However, I also dread the day I have to cut Hattie's hair. I figure she's feisty enough she'll do her own one of these days right at the top. At least Raven didn't right! She looks darling!
